Six members of a hardware store owner’s family were found slaughtered in their home. The police investigation concluded that they killed one another over an inheritance dispute.

But what if the incident was the work of an outsider?

The story opens with the shocking discovery of six members of a family who own a hardware store, all brutally murdered in their home. Initial suspicion points to disputes over inheritance, framing the massacre as the tragic outcome of greed. As the narrative unfolds through conversations between a psychologist and a patient, the truth emerges in layers, revealing manipulation, hidden motives, and disturbing tension. Each perspective exposes the fragile bonds within the family and the dark desires that drive them toward betrayal. Rather than offering a straightforward resolution, the novel maintains a relentless atmosphere of dread, where every revelation intensifies the complexity of motives and the unsettling truth behind the massacre.

We’re excited to feature Patient by Naomi Midori, a bestselling gem from Indonesia’s rising Crime-Thriller-Mystery (CTM) genre. The novel introduces readers to iyamisu, Japan’s “unpleasant mystery” style, known for its unsettling exploration of humanity’s darkest side. Naomi Midori succeeds in crafting a chilling picture of how corrupted morals and resentment results in unthinkable violence, leaving readers unsettled long after the final page.

With its gripping narrative and shocking twists, Patient has captivated crime and mystery enthusiasts nationwide. Beyond exemplifying the iyamisu genre, it also highlights the growing strength of Indonesia’s CTM genre and its potential to resonate with readers on the global stage.
